Hualien's Marble

All the sidewalks in the small town of Hualien, Taiwan, are literally paved in marble.   It's mostly green and white but the hues run the whole gamut.  The quantity of marble on display is a testament to the size and productivity of the quarries near the Taroko Gorge.  The Gorge is just a few miles west of Hualien.   It is this marble that was used on Lord Nelson's.  It was purchased in slab form from a Taipei-based distributor and cut to shape in the boatyard.

By the way, Tommy said the chessboard in the LN41's saloon table was his idea.   It's both decorative and practical allowing hot pots to be placed right on the table.
